Travel Coaching: Active Listening, Effective Communication, and The Power of Human Connection

travel coaching Oct 18, 2023

Clients want to feel and know that you are truly hearing what they have to say. It is your responsibility as the travel coach to focus completely on what your client is and isn't saying. This is important because in order to provide proper and effective advice and guidance, you need to fully understand your client's desires, self-expression, goals, fears, values, beliefs, and idea of possibilities.

As a travel coach, empowerment and personalization are key ingredients to your services which is why it is important that you encourage, accept, explore, and reinforce your client's unique perceptions, feelings, worries, beliefs, wellbeing, learning style, and ideas/suggestions. Then, with those ideas and suggestions of your client, build upon them and integrate them into how you see them moving forward and excelling towards their goals.

Asking the right questions is crucial. Go beneath the surface than the traditional logistics of a trip or a client’s past travel decisions and...

The Impact of Travel on a Brain in Crisis

By: Cari Kelley

Travel has always been celebrated for its ability to broaden horizons and provide new experiences. However, beyond its external benefits, travel can also have a profound impact on the human brain, particularly when it is in a state of crisis. Whether facing personal challenges, stress, or mental health issues, embarking on a journey can offer a unique set of therapeutic effects. In this blog, I will explore the positive influence of travel on the brain in crisis, shedding light on its potential to promote healing, resilience, and personal growth.

1. Escaping the Familiarity Trap

When the brain is caught in crisis, the comfort of routine can become a double-edged sword. Familiar surroundings might inadvertently remind us of our problems, reinforcing negative thought patterns. Travel breaks this cycle by immersing us in new and unfamiliar environments. Stepping outside the comfort zone can stimulate the brain, enabling it to focus on the present and divert attention...

How to Get Clients as a Travel Coach

travel coaching Aug 16, 2023

Are you struggling to get clients? This blog post is for you.

It is one thing to chase clients and it’s another to attract them.

I’ve seen the posts time and time again that say “book now!” or “why you should visit (insert destination) now!”

Travel is too meaningful of an experience to “sell” it in a very surface-level way.

Why and how people travel, where they go, and who they travel with all has purpose to it. What people are seeking out of a travel experience has reason behind it and intention that needs to be applied to it.

Here are 5 things to ask yourself if you are struggling to attract your ideal clients:

1) Are you clear on your story?

Your own story of why you started traveling, what travel has done for you, how travel has transformed and impacted your life, what travel means to you, any hurdles that you’ve overcome, any downfalls that you’ve had, any...

Top 8 Tips to Avoid Loneliness as a Solo Traveller

solo travel Aug 07, 2023

By Sue Cockell at Sue Where Why What

A question I hear regularly is “Don’t you find travelling alone, lonely?” I’ll be honest and say that yes, of course it can be. One of the biggest fears when you decide to venture out into the world as a solo traveller is loneliness.

I started my new journey travelling the world alone after losing my husband back in 2014. We had been very happy together for 18 years. I am therefore very familiar with experiencing moments of crippling loneliness. As a result, it’s hard to look anyone in the eye and dismiss their concerns.

But I have discovered that being alone does not automatically mean being lonely and even if it did, it is not necessarily sad.

Initially, I was very concerned about how others would see me, especially when I went into a restaurant:

“Will they all stare at me? Think I’ve been stood up? Have no friends? Am trying to pick them up? What if nobody talks to me? Or even worse, what if they...

From Fear to Freedom: Embracing the Journey of Solo Travel in Mexico

solo travel Aug 03, 2023
By: Alli Iacullo

I had become quite the expert at traveling as a solo traveler with small group tours, but in the fall of 2021, with nine group tours under my belt, I decided I was finally ready to make the leap to completely solo travel.  As a result of the pandemic, I had new found flexibility to work remotely so instead of suffering through another long winter in New Jersey, I thought why not escape to somewhere warm.

A friend suggested Mexico…it was close, cheap, and warm, and who doesn’t love margaritas and guac?  Mexico was unfamiliar territory to me as I’d only been once before when I was 16, but I did some research on possible locations, made a quick trip to Playa del Carmen to scope it out and decided it would totally work.

Since I was anxious about traveling completely solo, I planned everything to a T for my 7 week stay in Mexico:

  • First 30 days: Playa del Carmen would be my home base.  Non-refundable Airbnb...

How Travel Contributes to Your 3 Buckets of Happiness

wellness travel Jul 31, 2023

Studies show that there are three buckets to fill that lead to increased happiness which are vitality, connection, and contribution, all which can be found through travel.

Vitality is both physically and mentally. When we travel, we tend to be more active. We walk around a new city to explore, we take hikes to beautiful viewpoints, and take a stroll along the beach breathing in the fresh sea air. Spending time in nature, staying active, and feeling rejuvenated can all increase our vitality. Travel can also give our mental vitality a boost through personal growth. We learn new skills, become great problem-solvers, gain confidence, and feel fulfilled and enriched.

One of the most popular reasons why people travel is to meet new people. We are social beings by nature. Travel is a great way to meet people that you otherwise wouldn’t have met, share and hear stories, and spend quality time with your loved ones. Travel enriches and builds relationships. It’s the people that we...

Rediscovering Hope: How Solo Travel Inspired Me to Imagine Life after Endometriosis

solo travel Jul 27, 2023

By: Norah Connolly

When I was in my early 20s living in Jackson, WY chasing the ski bum dream, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. Fortunately for me, I have never experienced extreme pelvic pain, which is the most common symptom of a disease that is still not completely understood. Unfortunately, though, my type of endo created grapefruit-sized tumors in my abdomen and so living far from the excellent medical care I received in Boston, MA was not an option for me.

In the spring 2017, after multiple abdominal surgeries and because of increasing symptoms at the time, my doctor and I decided to schedule a full hysterectomy for that summer. For the first time in a long time, I had hope that a new life was waiting for me on the other side of the operating table; one that could allow me to move to a more rural New England life near the best skiing the northeast had to offer. It was time to let my body and mind heal from the emotional turmoil of disease.

Before my hysterectomy, I decided...
