Starting a travel coaching business can be both exciting and daunting. You have a passion for travel, and you want to share it with others. However, you may be dealing with various roadblocks that can prevent you from taking the first step. Let’s talk about five major barriers you might be facing when it comes to developing your travel coaching business and how the Travel Coach Certification Program (TCCP) can help you overcome them.
It's natural to feel unmotivated at times, especially when you're starting something new. However, in the TCCP, you'll be surrounded by a community of like-minded travel business owners who understand what you're going through. At the Travel Coach Network, we encourage our program members to work with accountability buddies and interact with each other in our exclusive Travel Coach Entrepreneurs Facebook group.
Perhaps you've never owned a business or worked in travel before. It can feel scary to start something...
Stressed. Exhausted. Frustrated. Confused. Overwhelmed. Indeed, I was experiencing the effects of burnout. Whether it be the pandemic, work, or just life in general, I’m sure you can relate.
In 2022, I felt very stuck. Nothing seemed to be going right, my teaching job was getting more stressful, and my health was in peril. I felt like a zombie, just lumbering through life with no voice. At that point, I knew I had to do something to make a change because I felt like I was going in circles. I tried everything to recover, but nothing helped me feel like myself. I needed to get away. I had always enjoyed traveling and exploring new places and decided that a trip was in order! So, I dusted off my bucket list and the wheels began to turn.
My bucket list was a living document where I added and removed locations. Over time, I realized that the trend of my preferred sites were places that presented challenges- physically, emotionally and spiritually....
Have you ever had a natural urge to want to just book a flight and get away?
Have you ever envied those people that you see while you’re strolling on Instagram and wished you had their life traveling the globe aimlessly and having those exciting experiences?
Have you asked yourself why you never booked that flight though?
What about those limiting beliefs that fill your head, have you figured out where those are coming from?
Are you finding it difficult to take the leap on whatever it is that you wish to happen in your life?
On a simple level, that is what travel coaches can help with. But, there’s far more too.
Just like you turn to a therapist to help you identify where your underlying feelings stem from or why you make the decisions in life that you do, travel coaches are there to help you use travel as that tool in your life that helps your reach your personal goals, shape your dream lifestyle,...
We all want to make sure our time on this planet isn’t wasted; we all want to spread our
message, help people, and make a lasting difference in the world. But how can we actually
do this through travel coaching? What are the steps we need to take? And how can we
design our legacy to make sure we continue helping people even after we’re gone?
“What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see” – Lin-Manuel
Miranda, Hamilton.
First of all, let’s look at what a legacy actually is.
Legacy can mean a hundred different things but, simply put, your legacy is the impact you
make – on other people and on the planet in general – even long after you’re gone. It’s the
thing you’re remembered for. It’s the positive effect you have on those who come after you.
It’s planting the seeds that will one day turn into a beautiful garden – a garden that future...
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard someone say “I didn’t know that was a thing” when I talk about travel coaching and guess what? That’s okay with me.
The reason being is that travel coaching is a newer concept. I remember when I started figuring out my own wellness travel coaching business in back in 2018, I had never heard of it either. Eventually, I went to Google and saw that the majority of what popped up in the search results were travel coach buses. There was an article that I did see from 2010 (the year that I began my solo global journey) on the potential of travel coaching.
Fast forward to today, the travel coaching industry is booming.
I say that not only because of the tremendous organic growth that The Travel Coach Network (TCN) has had, especially during and post 2020, but because of the amount of travel coaches that exist beyond the TCN.

Think travel as a form of therapy.
We as humans have always traveled for deeper and more personal reasons. Whether that’s for healing, self-discovery, a sense of fulfillment, inspiration, coping, feeling something new, or finding our purpose and happiness.
Think about a time when you found yourself up late at night scrolling on Instagram looking at photos of travelers in stunning destinations. What about the time that you found yourself just randomly searching for flight prices. Think about where your mind truly was at when you booked your last trip or a trip that truly made an impact on you. How were you feeling before going on that trip? What was going on in your life, mind, relationship, or work-life then? What would you contribute as the motivation for that trip to be?

oftentimes, we travel in a way that...

As travel coaches, we ask strategic questions so we can help our clients pull the answers from within, but what do we do with the answers we get?
Open-ended, purposeful questions are important, but our ability to decipher and utilize the answers they provoke is just as crucial.
As a business owner, you have likely given thought to your “why” more than once.
Why did you start this business?
Why do you do what you do?
Why do you serve who you serve?
And perhaps most importantly, why travel?
This last question is one you probably ask your own clients. The answer they give you dictates how you are able to assist them.
The key to analyzing this lies in understanding the difference between surface-level and deep responses.
A surface-level response sounds general or vague and tends to exclusively focus on the travel experience. Some examples might include:
A travel coach wears lots of hats including cheerleader, guide, liaison, and more. For many people, combining travel coaching with their current role allows them to play off their existing strengths, passions and experiences.
Choosing this route can be a great way for new travel business owners to create a foundation that helps them gain clarity on their niche and offerings. If you are wondering about blending travel coaching with a specific career, check out this article we wrote about how to make travel coaching work with...
